Relax, enjoy, have a blast.
Cabarete boasts warm sunshine, clear blue skies, and strong winds for most of the
year, making it essentially a tropical dream paradise. The hottest months are from
June to October, while the winter months from December to March may be cooler at
night, but you won’t need more than a long sleeve shirt. The rainy season typically
starts in October and lasts through December.
Tropical showers usually don't last long, and the sun comes out for most of the day.
This is a good time to travel as there are fewer tourists, hotel and restaurant
prices are cheaper, and store owners are much more willing to make deals. Visitors
to Cabarete can expect nice sunny weather with clear blue skies and ideal weather
conditions for kiteboarding, kitesurfing, surfing, windsurfing, other water sports,
or just exploring.
To answer the question of when exactly there is wind in Cabarete, it can be said without exaggeration that it's almost always windy. Cabarete has one of the longest kitesurfing seasons in the world. There are on average 250-300 windy days per year, not including the days with less wind suitable for kite foiling. During the summer, thermal winds provide the wind, while storm fronts and trade winds provide constant wind for the rest of the year. The wind blows from the east, which provides Cabarete with perfect side-onshore kiting conditions for the most part. Generally, there is no wind in the morning (which gives you the oportunity to stop by Encuentro, the famous surf spot nearby, where the waves are the best in the morning). Early afternoon the wind is starting to pump up. After 2 pm, the thermals kick in and make the wind much stronger, reaching its peak around 4 to 5 pm, and usually lasting until sunset, allowing the water sports enthusiasts to enjoy the stunning Caribbean sunset from the water.

Cabarete, Dominican Republic is one of the best destinations in the Caribbean, primarily for those seeking an active vacation, but anyone can find what they're looking for, whether they want to relax in nature with their family, partner, or also as a solo traveler.
If you wish to explore further the town of Sosua is close by and the city of Puerto Plata can be reached easily. You can discover more of the history of the Dominican Republic north coast, visit museums, caves, waterfalls, see Amber jewelry being made, visit historic sights and even spend a day at the famous Ocean World water park.
Cabarete is known as a watersports paradise and has one of the longest sandy beach in the Dominican Republic. It's a place where the landscape and wind work in perfect harmony to create consistently ideal kitesurfing conditions for beginners through to pros.
Cabarete is one of the original kitesurfing meccas; people have been visisting this fantastic spot in the Dominican Republic for years. The wind blows all year around. You’ll find a relaxed cosmopolitan atmosphere and a town filled with people who love to kite. When the sun goes down, the vibrant nightlife starts in the downtown.
Cabarete became a popular destination for travelers in the 80s, thanks to windsurfing. Kitebsurfing, Wing Foiling, surfing and SUP quickly became the new trending activities to enjoy in the Dominican Republic’s North Coast.
With 250-300 days of wind per year Kite Season in Cabarete is almost all year round. Good Wind conditions in Cabarete are provided by thermal winds in the summer, storm fronts in the winter, and year-round trade winds. Water temperature in Cabarete is generally warm and stays at an average of 25-30°C – 77-86°F.
AGUALINA KITE HOTEL is located in the heart of the Kite Beach which is less busy than Cabarete Bay and has the perfect wind. The reef is located 300m out, it is shallow but protects the bay, that’s why Cabarete is also a perfect location for beginner kitesurfers.
The air temperature ranges from around 26°C/80°F in the winter to over 30°C/86°F and above in the summer. The water temperature is warm, and board shorts and bikinis are the order of the day, you might want a thermal vest for your sunset ride. You'll only need to pack one jumper, it stays warm all day and night, and you’ll never wear socks either, so leave those at home!
For kiters we have an onsite air compressor to pump your kites and the large grassy lawn is the perfect place for you to roll your kites up on.
A "MUST-HAVE" app you need for finding the right location to ride or to learn kiteboarding, windsurfing or wigfoiling.
In front of the main town beach, the crescent-shaped Cabarete Bay is protected by roughly 800m of reef offshore. Ideal for beginners in the morning, it’s relaxed freeride by lunchtime once the local thermal’s boosted the trades to Force 4-6. The windsurf zone is upwind, kiters launch downwind at Bozo Beach. Building cross-onshore wind from the right can turn the little shorebreak into an interesting beach-break. But the real break awaits offshore on Cabarete Reef. Conditions are usually moderate: 2-3m waves with cross-onshore wind, so not too steep. At the western end of Cabarete Bay, Kite Beach offers very similar conditions – except the beach, freeride area and waves on the reef are all a touch smaller. The secret of Cabarete’s success is that you can comfortably circulate between your room, the beach, and the restaurants on a fortnight’s holiday. But there are good reasons to leave this synthetic world – like the 7km downwinder to Encuentro (though you can take a moto-concho).
The clean reef-break is the area’s favourite waveriding venue, so take it easy! El Canal is technically very similar to Encuentro, although the wind’s just a little more cross-shore. Unfortunately it’s a 20-minute walk to the private beach between Perla Marina and the Sea Horse Ranch, so very few sail here. East of Cabarete towards Islabon, opposite the police station is the quick, hollow beach-break of La Policia. It’s fun for kiting, but not always suitable for windsurfing in cross-onshore wind. La Boca estuary offers mirror-flat water before a lush green backdrop. As long as it’s not too busy, there’s enough space for kiting. And there’s a downwinder back to town – just be careful of the dry reef upwind of Cabarete Bay, and look for the channel downwind! With a hire car you can totally escape Cabarete’s gravity. Head east towards the idyllic Peninsula de Samaná with its white sandy beaches, palm groves and mango forests. About half-way, Playa Grande & Playa Preciosa are both considered the country’s best surf-spots, but they only work in solid N swell (winter).
The wind’s rarely strong enough and it’s very holey near the beach, so difficult for kiting. But when it works there’s a hollow beach-break in Playa Grande, while La Preciosa beyond the rocky point offers a quality reef-break. About 3 hours from Cabarete, Las Terrenas is where the Legaignoux brothers developed the first inflatable kites. The paradisiacal crystal-clear lagoon is mainly waist-deep but shallower in parts with generally lighter winds (10-20 knots), so it’s not ideal for windsurfing. West out of Cabarete, Hispaniola reveals a completely different face as beyond Puerto Plata the island’s drier and sparser. Expect a 3-4 hour drive to Buenhombre where the wind starts later in the afternoon but soon builds to 30 knots. The launch is on a sandy beach 500m downwind of a small fishing village at the foot of the hills. Be careful, it’s very shallow – windsurfers launch from a beach beyond the hill.

Encuentro is the most consistent surf spot in the Dominican Republic, and probably one of the most consistent surfing spots in the Caribbean. 350 days per year there’s a surfable wave that is higher than 2′ ( 60 cm – Waist high).
The 27 waterfalls of Damajagua or as the locals know them (27 Charcos) is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the city of Puerto Plata due to its ecological beauty and the beautiful waterfalls that have formed over the years creating natural slides on the rock to slide, this tourist attraction is made up of 27 waterfalls but most people only go through 12 waterfalls due to the time and physical effort that it would take to cross all the waterfalls in one day, the Damajagua River is located in a natural area protected by the government of the Dominican Republic.

Snorkeling in Sosua Beach is perhaps the tour with most demand, because one aspect of this beach is the amount of shallow areas with coral and colorful, tropical reef fish. Sosua bay is easy for snorkeling without needing a boat, just snorkel gear and a floating vest to avoid getting tired if you want to spend an hour in the water.

The fishing village of Punta Rucia offers a dreamy white sand beach and surrounding mangroves, northwest of Puerto Plata. From its shores and from the neighboring bay of La Isabela, boats depart to the offshore Cayo Arena–also known as Cayo Paraíso– offering exceptional diving for beginner levels, starting at five meters (16 feet). Schools of tropical fish can also easily be seen in shallow turquoise waters, making this spot a paradise for snorkeling fans. This area boasts some of the most abundant marine life in the DR, with corals and sponges that surround the cay, where octopuses, crabs, schools of surgeonfish, sergeant majors, damselfish, angelfish, and yellowtail snappers all swim around your feet.
If you are an obsessed kite surfer than you can take your stuff with you and enjoy the windy Cayo Paraíso.
Buen Hombre is famous for having the best wind in the Caribbean. This is a small, beautiful, fishing village about 35 km before Monte Cristi, about 3-hour drive away from Cabarete. The flat water and perfect wind with a wide beach make it an ideal location for learning kite surfing. Buen Hombre is windy about 300 days a year- so if there’s no wind in Cabarete, make plans with us to head north for this kiting adventure spot.
